Mayor Encourages Winnipeggers to Observe Earth Hour

Released: March 22, 2013 at 12:12 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB - Mayor Sam Katz is encouraging all Winnipeggers to join millions of people around the world as they symbolically switch off their lights for one hour to raise awareness for environmental issues.

“I am asking all Winnipeggers to set a reminder now, and join in by powering down their non-essential lights and electronics on Saturday night,” said Mayor Katz. “It’s a great time for families to talk about the small changes that we can make to save energy and protect the environment.”

Earth Hour will be observed between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m., on Saturday, March 23, 2013. During that time, only security and safety lighting will remain on at City Hall.

In its seventh year, Earth Hour began in Sydney, Australia and has grown to a global movement observed by hundreds of millions of people in over 150 countries and territories. For more information, please visit http://www.earthhour.org/.
