FIFA Women's World Cup Canada 2015™ Official Match Schedule announced

Winnipeg, MB - Today at events in Edmonton and Vancouver, the FIFA Women's World Cup Canada 2015™ Official Match Schedule was unveiled. Also announced were a timeline for ticket sales and stadium venue information.

“With today’s event schedule announcement, Winnipeg’s enthusiasm for this amazing event continues to grow,” said Winnipeg Mayor Sam Katz. “Winnipeg is ready to showcase our amazing hospitality, and the city’s large community of soccer fans is ready to bring their unparalleled excitement and enthusiasm to each and every match.”

Selected in 2012, Winnipeg is one of six Canadian cities chosen to host the FIFA Women's World Cup 2015™ soccer event which is recognized as the world's most important and largest international women's sporting competition. Twenty-four international teams will compete in 52 matches over a 23 day period in June, 2015. Each selected city will host four teams. Winnipeg is scheduled to host seven regular matches.

Canada was awarded the FIFA Women's World Cup 2015™ in March, 2011 and potential host cities were inspected by FIFA site inspectors. Winnipeg's bid was successful and potential sites for accommodation, special events and training are being identified by FIFA officials.

The FIFA Women's World Cup Soccer event is held every four years and the 2015 event is expected to attract over one million spectators across Canada, and more than 15 million viewers on television. Soccer is the number one participation sport in Canada and the World Cup event is expected to help build interest and excitement around youth soccer participation.
