Truck plowing on bus routes and collector streets underway

Salting and sanding of streets to continue around-the-clock

Winnipeg, MB - Due to accumulations of snow, a truck plowing operation was initiated last night on the on the city's main routes (Priority1 streets). This morning, the truck plowing operation is continuing on main routes, bus routes and collector streets (Priority 2 streets). Plowing will continue throughout the day and tonight until completed.

A salting operation that was initiated last night on main routes has improved road conditions. Salting of main routes will continue as required. Sanding of Bus Routes and Collector Streets (P2s) and Residential Streets (P3s) is also underway and will continue around-the-clock to improve traction on roadways.

Plowing of sidewalks on main routes, bus routes, collector streets and residential streets is also underway and will continue this week.

Plowing of back lanes will commence on Wednesday morning and will continue daily until completed.

Motorists are reminded to drive to road conditions and to use extreme caution when driving near any plowing or salting/sanding equipment.

About 150 pieces of equipment will be used for this clean-up operation which is estimated to cost approximately $500,000.

There are currently no winter parking bans in effect.
