Winnipeg, MB -The City of Winnipeg Animal Services Agency is experiencing near maximum capacity for impounded dogs. There are currently 58 dogs in the Animal Services system: 38 dogs available for adoption and 20 unlicensed stray dogs waiting for their owners to come.

In order to help free-up kennel space, the Animal Services Agency will be holding an Adopt-a-Dog sale on the following days at 1057 Logan Avenue:
Thursday, February 21 | 12:00 noon to 5:30 p.m. |
Friday, February 22 | 12:00 noon to 5:30 p.m. |
Saturday, February 23 | 12:00 noon to 4:30 p.m. |
Sunday, February 24 | 12:00 noon to 4:30 p.m. |
All in-house dog adoptions are only $99 and include license, micro-chip, spay/neuter, basic shots, food and pet health insurance.

In 2012 Animal Services experienced a 94% live release rate which means 94% of the dogs that entered the Agency were either returned to their owner, adopted, or sent to an animal rescue organization.
Animal Services officials remind the public that dogs over six months of age must have and wear a dog license. Stray dogs found wearing a current license are given a “free ride home” once a year. In 2012, 927 dogs wearing a current license were reunited by 311 without ever setting foot in the Animal Services’ facility. Dog license tags protect one’s dog and license revenues help provide the essential service of animal control in Winnipeg.
