Winnipeg, MB - In response to the snow and blowing snow last night and this morning, City crews are working as quickly as possible to clear main routes, bus routes, and collector streets. A truck plow operation was initiated this morning at 9:00 a.m., and will continue today and tonight on the City's Priority 1 and Priority 2 streets. Front-end loaders will be used to assist the truck plowing operation to clear snow from intersections.
Sanding trucks are continuing to work around-the-clock to address conditions on the roadway and improve traction.
Plowing of back lanes will begin Tuesday morning at 7:00 a.m., and will continue daily until completed.
Clearing of sidewalks on main routes is underway, which will be followed by clearing of sidewalks on bus routes and collector streets.
Plowing crews will also be addressing locations that are prone to drifting snow such as outlying areas.
The Annual Snow Route Parking Ban remains in effect from 2:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. nightly.
Residents are urged to adjust their driving behaviour by making allowances for winter driving conditions. Drivers are advised to factor in additional travel time to get to destinations, slow down to a safe travel speed for winter conditions, and allow appropriate stopping distances. Pedestrians are reminded to use proper winter footwear and use caution when walking on sidewalks.
