Winnipeg, MB - Three City of Winnipeg staff, along with their counterparts in the provincial government, are among the finalists for the Golden Scissors Award, a yearly program of the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) to recognize initiatives that produce meaningful and positive results in cutting red tape for business.
The six-person Government of Manitoba/City of Winnipeg Business Number project team is among ten finalists announced on Friday, January 18, 2013 for this year’s awards. The CFIB will present the awards on January 25, 2013.
“As e-government continues to develop, the business number will support self-service through the Internet,” said Mayor Sam Katz. “An initiative like this reduces red tape, and makes it easier for small business owners to get the job done more efficiently. I congratulate the nominees on this important initiative.”
The City of Winnipeg will be the first Canadian municipality to adopt the national business number as a common identifier among its programs. Using one common business number across the levels of government simplifies businesses’ interactions at the federal, provincial and municipal government levels.
The City of Winnipeg, in partnership with the federal and provincial governments, announced its transition into the business number in October, 2012. The program will be implemented by the City starting in the spring of 2013.
