Upgrades to everything from plumbing to flooring on the way for 12 Winnipeg community centres

Mayor announces thousands in funding under the Community Centre Renovations Grant Program

Winnipeg, MB - Winnipeg Mayor Sam Katz was joined today by members of City Council and representatives of a number of local community centres to announce $386,000 of funding to help with renovations and repairs to several facilities throughout the city.

This is the second round of grants awarded to successful applicants of the Community Centre Renovation Grant Program, which was approved by Council in February, 2012.

“Community centres are the hub in neighbourhoods across the city, and we want to help them thrive by providing the support they need to make upgrades such as replacing windows and installing security systems,” said Mayor Katz.

As part of the Fall 2012 intake process, 12 community centres have been awarded grants. They are:

The program has two intake periods each year: spring (application deadline of May 1) and fall (application deadline November 1). The program provides up to $965,000 in annual funding for community centres to access to supports repairs, upgrades, retrofits, safety improvements and renovation projects. Applicants are eligible for 100 per cent support of project costs to a maximum of $50,000 per project per calendar year.
