WINNIPEG, MB - August 23, 2012 - As part of City Council's strategic investments in recreation facilities and services, the City is investing $3 million to make improvements to a number of its indoor pools.
Transcona Centennial Pool, Elmwood Kildonan Pool, St. James Centennial Pool and Pan Am Pool are undergoing upgrades that include roof repairs, improved locker facilities, floor replacement and even the installation of new ultraviolet light disinfection units.
"Pool facilities are extremely popular throughout the city," said Mayor Sam Katz. "This preventative maintenance program reduces the risk of unscheduled closures throughout the year and ensures our citizens have access to modern, well-cared-for facilities."
As a result of the upgrades taking place, these facilities will be closed as follows:
- St. James Centennial - currently closed until September 14, 2012
- Pan Am Pool - currently closed until September 29, 2012
- Elmwood Kildonan Pool - closed August 25, 2012 to September 29, 2012
- Transcona Centennial Pool - closed September 2, 2012 to September 29, 2012
These facilities will all be re-opened and functioning in time for fall aquatics programming.
