Mayor to present Certificate of Appreciation toBarb Burkowski

WINNIPEG, MB - July 16, 2012 - Today Mayor Sam Katz will present a Certificate of Appreciation to Barb Burkowski, in recognition of her years of dedicated service to the Pride Winnipeg Festival.

“Barb has contributed to Pride Winnipeg for many years, both as committee member and as Chair,” said Mayor Sam Katz. “With her enthusiasm and positive energy, Barb brings a diverse group of people together, making them feel connected to the global Pride movement. Barb’s vision is one of the reasons the Pride Winnipeg Festival has seen such tremendous growth in recent years.”

In 2012, Pride Winnipeg organizers estimate that 20,000 people participated in the rally, parade and festival at the Forks.

Pride Winnipeg is an umbrella organization, representing lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, two-spirit and queer communities.

The raising of the rainbow flag at City Hall has become the symbolic kick-off to Pride celebrations in Winnipeg. Winnipeg hosts the largest Pride festival held anywhere between Toronto and Vancouver.
