WINNIPEG - The annual TD Summer Reading Club starts today, Monday, June 25, at all Winnipeg Public Library branches. The Reading Club ends on Friday, August 10.

The TD Summer Reading Club is a national literacy initiative for children up to age 12. Children sign up at any branch of Winnipeg Public Library for a free reading kit with activity booklet, poster and stickers. Participants track their time spent reading and collect small prizes as they progress through their reading logs. Pre-readers participate by tracking time being read to. Children choose the books and read for the fun of it, all while improving reading skills and reducing summer learning loss.

This year's TD Summer Reading Club theme of Imagine has inspired a wide range of creative and engaging programs for children. Winnipeg Public Libraries are offering additional programming and special events for children, teens and families in July and August.

In total, Winnipeg Public Library has over 170 free programs for children, teens and families this summer! Examples of the free programs include:

  • Story, game and craft programs
  • Imagine themed programs, Lego Block Parties, photo editing for teens and board game bonanzas
  • Film workshops for tweens (ages 9-12) and Piecebook workshops for teens (ages 13-17) with the Graffiti Gallery
  • TD Summer Reading Club special performances by Jake Chenier, Aaron Burnett and magician Ryan Price

Go to winnipeg.ca/library or pick up a copy of the summer issue of @ The Library for all the details.
