Public advised of upcoming roadway and parking restrictions

WINNIPEG - April 2, 2012 - The public is advised that beginning Thursday, April 5, 2012, a number of roadway and parking restrictions will take effect to help facilitate the construction of the new Disraeli Bridges.

Restrictions are as follows:

1. Restricted Parking on Henderson Highway
Starting Thursday, April 5, 2012 to mid-October, 2012, parking will not be permitted on the west side of Henderson Highway from Johnson Avenue West to Hespeler Avenue and on the east side between Dearborn Avenue and McIntosh Avenue.

This parking restriction will assist in accommodating traffic during re-construction of Henderson Highway. The parking lanes will be used to maintain two lanes of traffic northbound and southbound on Henderson Highway during construction.

2. No left turn from Henderson Highway to Hespeler Avenue
Starting Thursday, April 5, 2012 to mid-October, 2012, no left turn will be permitted from Henderson Highway northbound onto Hespeler Avenue.

Southbound right turns from Henderson Highway onto Martin, Carmen, Cobourg, Noble and Hart avenues will also be restricted Monday to Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m.

During the first phase, pedestrians are advised to cross Henderson Highway on the north side of the intersection. The pedestrian crossing on the south side will be closed.

3. Riverton Avenue closed and local access only on Midwinter Avenue
Starting Thursday, April 5, 2012 to Tuesday, July 31, 2012, all lanes and sidewalks on Riverton Avenue will be closed between Henderson Highway and Midwinter Avenue to allow for roadway construction.

The new Disraeli Bridges will replace 50-year-old structures that span the Red River and the Canadian Pacific Railway mainline, and will rejuvenate a critical piece of Winnipeg's transportation infrastructure.
