Books2Eat returns to the Winnipeg Public Library

For the second year, Winnipeg Public Library and the Winnipeg Public Library Board are hosting Books2Eat - a festival combining the creative and culinary talents of book lovers, amateur and professional cooks, and librarians.

WINNIPEG - March 23, 2012 - For the second year, Winnipeg Public Library and the Winnipeg Public Library Board are hosting Books2Eat - a festival combining the creative and culinary talents of book lovers, amateur and professional cooks, and librarians.

Saturday, March 31, 2012
1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Millennium Library, 251 Donald Street

The Challenge
Books2Eat participants are challenged to create an edible piece of art that is inspired by books. You can pun on a title, refer to a scene or character, create a book or book cover lookalike. There are only two rules to enter a submission: the creation must be made of all edible materials and it has to be inspired by a book.

Enter in one of 3 categories

  • Adult
  • Children
  • Professional/Culinary Schools

All entries will be put on display and judged on various qualities such as "Most Creative" or "Most Bookish" by a panel of three judges. Books2Eat judges for this year are: Carol Bigold from High Tea Bakery, Jamis Paulson of Turnstone Press and Doug Speirs of the Winnipeg Free Press.

Professional entries will also be served at the end of the day, so bring your appetite!

Deadline for entry applications is March 26.

Other Events
Guest speakers including Jim Ingebrigtsen (host of Great Tastes of Manitoba) and Charlene Pokornik of Tantalizing Treats will share their culinary expertise in 30-minute talks and there will be a delectable family story time session. A craft circle will also be held in the Children's area. All events are free and open to all.
