Salting and sanding of streets to continue around-the-clock
WINNIPEG - February 21, 2012 - Due to snowfall in Winnipeg overnight and this morning, a truck plowing operation has been initiated on the city's Priority II streets, including all bus routes and collector streets. Plowing will continue throughout the day and overnight until completed.
A salting operation was initiated last night on main routes (regional streets) and this action has improved road conditions. Salting of main routes will continue as required. Sanding of Priority II and Priority III (residential) streets is also underway and will continue around-the-clock to improve traction on roadways.
Plowing of sidewalks on main routes, bus routes and collector streets is also underway and will continue this week.
Motorists are reminded to drive to road conditions and to use extreme caution when driving near any plowing or salting/sanding equipment.
About 150 pieces of equipment will be used for this clean-up operation which is estimated to cost approximately $300,000.
