Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Stephens Street

Released: 2:21 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At 8:13 a.m. on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a one-and-a-half-storey triplex in the 100 block of Stephens Street.

Once on on-scene, crews encountered heavy fire showing from the building. They launched an offensive attack, knocking down some of the flames before transitioning to an exterior, defensive attack due to deteriorating conditions within the structure. Once conditions improved, they proceeded back into an offensive attack to complete extinguishment of the fire. Crews declared the fire under control at 8:59 a.m..

One occupant self-evacuated prior to crew arrival. A search of the building was conducted and no other occupants were found. No injuries were reported.

The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services was called to assist occupants in finding alternate accommodations.

No damage estimates are available at this time. The building sustained major fire damage. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
