WINNIPEG - July 8, 2011 - Mayor Sam Katz was joined today by Eric Vogan, Land Development Manager with Qualico Communities, and Tod Niblock of Tod Niblock & Associates Royal LePage Top Producers to announce two generous Sponsor Winnipeg contributions that will benefit those who use the Southdale Community Centre.
Qualico is contributing $300,000 towards naming rights for the newly constructed pleasure rink and Tod Niblock is donating $30,000 towards Southdale's baseball diamond #2. The rink will be known as the Sage Creek Leisure Ice and the ball diamond will be called the Tod Niblock Baseball Diamond. The proceeds from both donations will go towards supporting the Southdale Community Centre Expansion Capital Campaign.
"The expansion that is underway at Southdale means so very much to the families who use this facility, and we are delighted with the generosity demonstrated by Qualico and Tod Niblock through the Sponsor Winnipeg partnership program to help with the costs associated with the capital campaign," said Mayor Katz.
At Qualico Communities, we recognize that community centres, the volunteers and the recreational activities they organize are essential elements of a strong, complete community," said Eric Vogan. "In the new communities in which we have been involved, we have a long history of supporting community clubs and the people who make them work. In recognition of the fact that Sage Creek is within the catchment area, combined with the strong growth of the young Sage Creek community, we are happy to support Southdale's expansion with our contribution."
"My family moved to Southdale in 1974, and my brother Troy and I played shinny as kids on the outdoor rinks and organized hockey for the Southdale Lakers, "said Tod Niblock. "Now my four children, who are all under the age of 10, will get the future benefit of the new and improved facility. The community has showed their confidence and support of my real estate business, so this contribution is our way as a family to say thank you to this community."
