National Construction Codes

The 2010 National Building Code of Canada (NBC) addresses the design and construction of new buildings and the substantial renovation of existing buildings. In 2011, Manitoba adopted the National Building Code as the Manitoba Building Code (MBC) that included the Manitoba amendments. The NBC is available for purchase from the National Research Council and the MBC is available at no charge through the Office of the Fire Commissioner www.firecomm.gov.mb.ca/codes_ndc.html.

Where do I purchase the 2010 National Model Construction Codes?

The national codes can be purchased online at www.nrc.gc.ca/virtualstore, or by downloading the codes order form at www.nrc-cnrc.gc.ca/eng/ibp/irc/publications/ordering-information.html and faxing it to 1-613-952-7673. You can also call the Publication Sales Department at 1-800-672-7990.

Can I submit building permit applications using the 2015 National Building Code in Manitoba?

Not yet. The 2015 National Building Code is a model code which has not yet been adopted for construction in Manitoba. The Office of the Fire Commissioner, Province of Manitoba, is responsible for adoption of the NBC. Information on current Code adoption can be found in the "Codes and Standards" section of www.firecomm.gov.mb.ca/codes_ndc.html, or by phone at 204-945-3322 or 1-800-282-8069.
