A strategy available to help Winnipeg manage growth and improve the quality of life by aligning transit investments with the community’s vision for how it wants to grow, creating “livable” mixed-use, denser, walkable places, and providing an alternative to low-density suburban development and automobile-dependent land use patterns.
Building and Site Design Summary Building and Site Design Summary
Updates to the BSDS and Simplified BSDS have been incorporated for submission with building permit applications effective March 3, 2010. On-line access to documents has also been improved offering Word and PDF versions as well as offering access to each section of the BSDS for use by multiple industry professionals.
Certified Permit Coordinator Program Certified Permit Coordinator Program
Launching on April 6, 2010, as part of the City’s building permit services, the program is intended to fast track foundation permits for qualifying new commercial construction projects for certified professionals.

The intent of this project is to create a zoning framework to implement the community’s vision in three neighbourhood main street areas – Academy Road, St. Norbert and Transcona.

The City of Winnipeg is undertaking the preparation of a Communication Facilities Protocol to guide the development and installation of communication facilities and establish a community consultation process in Winnipeg.

The Neighbourhood Housing Plan was created to build on the work already in process in the areas of housing. The basis of the plan was the creation of the Neighbourhood’s Vision Goals. They describe a very possible reality of what the Neighbourhood could become given enough resources.
Transcona Recreation & Leisure Village Site Transcona Recreation and Leisure Village
The site of Transcona Stadium/Roland Michener Arena/Centennial Pool is being considered for redevelopment as an indoor recreation facility. Opportunities for housing and a library are also being considered. Information and ongoing updates about the visioning and scoping process will be posted here.

This super-regional commercial destination centre will be unique in Winnipeg, and is one of the largest commercial projects for Winnipeg in the last 25 years.
