Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to six structure fires since last evening.
Chiswell Cove fire
At 7:33 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, WFPS crews responded to reports of a fire in a single-family bi-level house on Chiswell Cove.
When they arrived at the scene, they found smoke and flames coming from the house. They launched an interior fire attack, declaring the fire under control at 8:11 p.m.
All occupants self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. One individual was assessed by paramedics at the scene and then transported to hospital in stable condition. No other injuries were reported.
The fire remains under investigation. Damage estimates are not available.
Selkirk Avenue fire
At 8:16 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, the WFPS responded to a fire in garage, next to a two-and-a-half storey, multi-family residence in the 200 block of Selkirk Avenue.
The fire was discovered by a WFPS crew returning from another call for service. Upon arrival, the garage was fully involved in fire.
When additional crews arrived, they launched a fire attack while stopping the fire from spreading to the residence. The fire was declared under control at 8:38 p.m.
Some occupants of the adjacent residence self-evacuated while others were evacuated by firefighters as a precaution. No injuries were reported.
The City’s Emergency Social Services team was activated to help displaced residents.

Chandos Avenue fire
At 8:51 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey apartment building in the 0 to 100 block of Chandos Avenue.
Upon arrival on the scene, firefighters found smoke in the building. They located a fire in the laundry room and launched an interior fire attack. The fire was declared under control at 9:25 p.m.
Occupants of the building safely evacuated the building and no injuries were reported. Once the fire was extinguished, they were able to return to their suites.
Damage estimates are not available.
Preliminary observations suggest the fire was accidental and caused by a malfunction in the operation of a clothes dryer.

- Ensure the outdoor vent flap opens properly when the dryer is running.

Colony Street fire
At 1:11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, the WFPS responded to a monitored alarm in a three-storey apartment building in the 200 block of Colony Street.
When crews arrived at the scene, they found smoke in the building. The fire was located and quickly brought under control.
Occupants were temporarily evacuated but allowed to return to their suites once the fire was extinguished. No injuries were reported.

Tweed Avenue fire
At 4:05 a.m. on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, WFPS crews responded to reports of a garage fire in the 400 block of Tweed Avenue.
When they arrived at the scene, they found a detached garage fully engulfed in flames. They launched a defensive fire attack from the exterior, declaring the fire under control at 4:26 a.m.
No injuries were reported.

Washington Avenue fire
At 5:49 a.m. on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire at a commercial building in the 600 block of Washington Avenue.
When crews arrived, they found smoke coming from the building. They quickly extinguished a small fire, stopping it from spreading.
No injuries were reported.
