Winnipeg, MB –At 1:36 p.m. on Monday, April 20, 2026, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a high-rise apartment building in the 400 block of Kennedy Street.
Because high-rise structures present added life-safety risks, dispatchers immediately upgraded the call to a second alarm and deployed additional crews to the scene.
At the scene, crews found smoke and flames in the building. Firefighters attacked the fire while other firefighters searched the building.
Firefighters declared the fire under control at 2:20 p.m.
Winnipeg Transit responded to the scene to provide a bus for temporary shelter for residents who were displaced. The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services team responded to the scene to provide temporary support.
The fire is under investigation. Many of the building’s residents were able to return to their suites. However, smoke, water, and fire damage prevented some residents from immediately returning.
