Chimney fires can cause serious damage and put lives at risk. Follow these tips to stay safe:

  • Get your chimney inspected and cleaned every year by a certified professional.
  • Burn only dry, seasoned wood to reduce creosote buildup.
  • Use a fireplace screen to keep sparks from escaping.
  • Never leave a fire unattended. Make sure it’s completely out before you leave or go to bed.
  • Put ashes in a metal container and keep it away from anything that can burn.
