Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to the following four structure fires.

William Avenue fire

At 4:19 a.m. on Monday, November 17, 2025, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a vacant, two-and-a-half storey house in the 600 block of William Avenue.

When crews arrived at the scene, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the house. They initially launched a defensive fire attack. Once it was safe to do so, they entered the house and transitioned to an interior fire attack. The fire was quickly brought under control.

Firefighters searched the house, and no occupants were found. There were no injuries reported.

The fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available.

Myrtle Street fire

At 3:14 a.m. on Monday, November 17, 2025, WFPS crews responded to reports of a fire in a vacant, mixed-use commercial / industrial structure on Myrtle Street.

Upon arrival on scene, crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from the building. They launched a defensive fire attack. Once conditions improved, they entered the building and transitioned to an interior fire attack. The fire was declared under control at 4:42 a.m.

The building was searched, and no occupants were found. No injuries were reported.

The fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available.

Newcastle Road fire

At 8:44 p.m. on Sunday, November 16, 2025, WFPS crews responded to reports of a fire in a split-level house on Newcastle Road.

When crews arrived at the location, they found smoke coming from the house. Firefighters launched an offensive fire attack. The fire was declared under control at 9:08 p.m.

All occupants of the house self-evacuated. No injuries were reported.

Preliminary observation suggests the fire was accidental, caused by an attempt to thaw frozen pipes using a heating torch.

Residents are reminded never to use a hot tool to thaw frozen pipes. Doing so can lead to fires, severe injuries, and property damage. Information on safely thawing frozen pipes can be found on the City’s website.

Damage estimates are not available.

Garfield Street North fire

At 6:07 p.m. on Sunday, November 16, 2025, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire involving a house under construction in the 1100 block of Garfield Street North.

When crews arrived on scene, they found the framed building engulfed in smoke and flames. They launched an exterior fire attack, declaring the fire under control at 6:27 p.m.

Neighbouring homes were temporarily evacuated as a precaution. No injuries were reported.

Due to significant structural instability, the WFPS ordered the immediate demolition of the remaining structure.

The fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available.
