Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to two structure fires this morning.

Midwinter Avenue fire

At 8:29 a.m. on Friday, September 19, 2025, WFPS crews responded to reports of a fire in a one-and-a-half storey house in the 200 block of Midwinter Avenue.

When crews arrived at the scene, they found smoke coming from the structure. Firefighters launched an offensive fire attack, declaring the fire under control at 8:56 a.m.

All occupants of the house safely evacuated before the arrival of crews. No injuries were reported.

The fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available.

Meadowood Drive fire

At 9:02 a.m. on Friday, September 19, 2025, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a four-storey apartment building.

Upon arrival on scene, firefighters encountered smoke in the building and located a fire in one of the suites. An interior fire attack was launched, and the fire was declared under control at 9:28 a.m.

Most occupants of the building self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews.

Two residents were assessed by paramedics. One was transported to hospital in stable condition. No other injuries were reported.

Damages were contained to the suite where the fire originated. Residents from all other suites were able to return once the fire was extinguished and smoke was ventilated from the building.

Preliminary observations suggest the fire was accidental, caused by unattended cooking.

WFPS reminds residents to follow these kitchen safety tips:

  • Stay in the kitchen while cooking.
  • Keep flammable items like towels, packaging, and curtains away from the stove.
  • Heat oil slowly and carefully. If it catches fire and is small, use a kitchen fire extinguisher or cover it with a metal lid.
  • Never use water to put out an oil fire.
