Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two overnight structure fires.
McDermot Avenue fire
At 5:45 a.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, WFPS crews responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey commercial structure in the 100 block of McDermot Avenue.
Upon arrival on scene, crews found smoke and flames coming from the building. Firefighters entered and launched an interior fire attack, declaring the fire under control at 6:40 a.m.
Firefighters searched the building and no occupants were located. No injuries were reported.
Crews are expected to remain on scene throughout the morning. Both McDermot Avenue and Bannatyne Avenue are closed to traffic between Rorie Street and Main Street.
The fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available.
Nairn Avenue fire
At 11:21 p.m. on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a single-storey commercial building in the 1000 block of Nairn Avenue.
When crews arrived at the scene, they found smoke coming from the building. An offensive fire attack was launched, and the fire was declared extinguished at 1:06 a.m. Firefighters contained the fire, stopping it from spreading to adjacent businesses.
Crews completed a search of the building, and no occupants were found. There were no injuries reported.
Preliminary observations suggest the fire was accidental, caused by an electrical failure. Damage estimates are not available.
