Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two house fires overnight.
Elmhurst Road fire
At 4:27 a.m. on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a single-family bungalow in the 700 block of Elmhurst Road.
When crews arrived at the scene, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the house. They initially launched an interior fire attack but were forced to exit the house due to deteriorating conditions. They transitioned to a defensive fire attack and once some of the fire was knocked down were able to re-enter the house to fully extinguish the fire. The fire was declared under control 6:31 a.m.
Firefighters completed a search of the house, and no occupants were found. There were no injuries reported.
The fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available however the house is believed to be a complete loss.
Parr Street fire
At 4:42 a.m. on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a one-and-a-half storey house and adjacent garage in the 100 block of Parr Street.
Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters found smoke coming from the house and garage. They entered the structures and fought the fire from the interior. The fire was declared under control at 5:05 a.m.
The sole occupant of the house safely self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. No injuries were reported. The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services team responded to the scene to provide temporary support to affected residents.
The fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available.
