Winnipeg, MB – Overnight, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two structure fires.
Ross Avenue West
At 9:13 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey house in the 1400 block of Ross Avenue West.
At the scene, firefighters saw heavy flames and smoke coming from the house. All occupants got out of the building safely. Firefighters used aerial ladders to spray water on the fire, while other crews searched neighbouring houses to ensure no one was inside.
The Winnipeg Police Service’s AIR1 helicopter provided situational awareness from above.
Firefighters switched between a defensive exterior attack to an interior offensive attack as conditions allowed. Firefighters declared the fire under control at 12:48 a.m.
The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services team responded to the scene to provide temporary support to affected residents.
The fire is under investigation. The home sustained significant smoke, fire, and water damage.
Aberdeen Avenue
At 12:13 a.m. on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a house in the 300 block of Aberdeen Avenue.
At the scene, firefighters found flames and smoke coming from the house. Firefighters learned there were people still inside the house and rescued two people from the house. Paramedics transported two patients to hospital in unstable condition.
At the same time, other firefighters launched an offensive, interior fire attack, declaring the fire under control at 12:39 a.m.
The fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.
