Winnipeg, MB – At 10:34 a.m. on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a vacant, two-storey duplex in the 600 block of Manitoba Avenue.
When crews arrived at the scene, they found heavy smoke coming from the structure. They launched a defensive fire attack as it was not safe for firefighters to enter. Crews remain on scene at this time, using aerial ladder trucks and hose lines to apply water on the fire. The WFPS drone is being used to provide situational awareness.
Significant fire and water damage have resulted in the partial collapse of the building. The WFPS is arranging an emergency demolition of the rest of the structure.
Road closures will remain in place until work is completed at the scene. Once crews clear the scene, residents should use caution in the area, as water used to fight the fire will be frozen, creating slippery conditions. City of Winnipeg crews will be monitoring conditions and applying sand and de-icing agents to roadways and sidewalks as required to improve traction
No injuries have been reported. The fire is under investigation.
The structure was previously damaged in a fire in October 2024.
Anyone who sees someone actively entering a vacant building, or removing boards from windows or doors from a building, should call 911 to report the incident immediately.
If you notice boarded windows or doors that have been breached, but you do not see someone actively entering or trying to enter the building, report the incident to 311 by phone or online.
