Winnipeg, MB – At 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 23, 2025, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a mixed commercial and residential building in the 400 block of Selkirk Avenue.
At the scene, firefighters attacked the fire from inside the building, declaring the fire under control at 2 p.m.
All occupants got out of the building safely before crews arrived. No one reported any injuries. Residents could return to their suites once crews completed their work on scene.
At 4:07 p.m., WFPS responded to reports of a fire in the same block of Selkirk Avenue. Crews initially attacked the fire from inside the building, but deteriorating conditions forced them to exit the building and attack the fire from the outside.
No injuries were reported. The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services team responded to the scene to help some people who were displaced.
Crews set up aerial ladders to spray water on the fire from the outside. Firefighters are expected to remain on scene into the night. Residents should avoid the area.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.
