Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two recent structure fires – one overnight and one early this morning.
Burrows Avenue Fire
At 12:27 a.m. on Sunday, September 8, 2024, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey house in the 400 block of Burrows Avenue.
When crews arrived at the scene, they found heavy black smoke coming from the house. Crews initially attacked the fire from the exterior of the building. Once some of the flames were knocked down, they were able to make entry to the house to complete extinguishment of the fire. The fire was declared under control at 1:21 a.m.
Crews completed a search of the house, and no occupants were located. There were no injuries reported.
The fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time.
Atlantic Avenue fire
At 7:15 a.m. on Sunday, September 8, 2024, WFPS crews responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey, mixed-use, commercial and residential building in the 200 block of Atlantic Avenue.
Upon arrival on scene, crews found smoke and flames coming from the structure. They launched an offensive fire attack, and the fire was declared under control at 7:40 a.m.
Some occupants had self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. Firefighters assisted others in exiting the building. All occupants were able to return to their suites once the fire was out. No injuries were reported.
The fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not currently available.
