Winnipeg, MB – At 7:43 p.m. on Friday, March 8, 2024, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey mixed-use building in the 500 block of Main Street.
When crews arrived to the scene, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the structure. Crews initially attempted to fight the fire from inside the building, but they were quickly forced to retreat due to dangerous conditions.
Crews are now fighting the fire from outside the building, using aerial ladder trucks and hose lines to apply water to the fire. Aerial and thermal imaging views from the WFPS drone are being used to help direct water streams and locate hotspots.
It is expected that crews will be on scene through the night working to ensure the fire is fully extinguished. Main Street is closed in both directions from Alexander Avenue to Logan Avenue.
At this time, no injuries have been reported. The building is expected to be a complete loss.
The fire is under investigation.
