Winnipeg, MB – Today, the City of Winnipeg launched winnipeg.ca/stormresponse, a new online resource for residents seeking information about the City’s cleanup operations following the recent storm.
The new online resource features an interactive map displaying progress on the City’s cleanup operations displayed by work area, including fields such as storm brush pickup, hazardous tree cleanup, non-hazardous tree maintenance, and overall cleanup, and will be updated on a regular basis.
Up-to-date information including operational updates, hours of operations for 4R Winnipeg Depots and landfill sites open for storm-related wood disposal, and a number of FAQs on various topics will also be available online.
We encourage residents to visit the new online resource for more information and to stay up-to-date on the latest developments.
Storm Clean-Up Operations
Crews continue to clear and remove downed trees and fallen branches city-wide, aided by contractors and crews from other Canadian municipalities, including Regina, Saskatoon, and Calgary. Crews are tackling the city zone-by-zone, starting on regional streets and moving through to collector streets, residential areas, and City-run parks.
Following an initial risk assessment of City-run parks, the decision has been made to temporarily close the following regional parks for public safety reasons:
- Kildonan Park
- Crescent Drive Park
- St. Vital Park
It’s expected that these regional parks may be closed for a number of weeks.
Existing parks bookings and special events planned for these parks have been cancelled. The City has reached out directly to those with affected bookings. People who had planned to attend events at these parks are asked to contact the event organizers for relocation and/or rescheduling information.
We also ask that if you are driving or walking through your neighbourhood or through parks and greenspaces to exercise extreme caution; there are still a lot of trees that have broken or hanging branches. Residents are reminded to look up, around you, and ahead of you to make sure you are aware of potential hazards.
WFPS Half Marathon
The safety of residents and visitors to our city is our upmost priority. The City has withdrawn the WFPS Half Marathon’s permit because of safety concerns due to tree damage along the run’s route, and forecasted high winds.
