November 10, 2020 - Playgrounds, skate parks, and other outdoor recreation amenities to close in response to COVID-19

As part of our commitment to ensuring the health and safety of our residents and employees, and in consideration of Winnipeg being elevated to Critical (Red) in the Province of Manitoba's Pandemic Response System, the City of Winnipeg is closing all City-owned and operated playgrounds, skate parks, and recreational sports fields effective immediately.

October 30, 2020 - City of Winnipeg’s response to Critical (Red) status

As part of our commitment to ensuring the health and safety of our residents and employees, and in consideration of Winnipeg being elevated to Critical (Red) in the Province of Manitoba’s Pandemic Response System, the City of Winnipeg is suspending all of its recreation and leisure programs and services, including Leisure Guide programming, and closing all City-owned and operated recreation facilities, gyms, indoor pools, arenas, and libraries effective Saturday, October 31 until further notice.

Effective October 1, 2020, the City of Winnipeg will begin assessing and collecting penalties and interest for late payments of various fees and fines, including for ambulance bills, parking tickets, and water bills, among others. This does not apply to penalties for unpaid property and business taxes, as these can still be paid late until November 30, 2020 without penalty.

As part of our commitment to ensure the health and safety of our residents and employees, effective Saturday, August 29, 2020 the City of Winnipeg is requiring that all individuals entering City-operated facilities or using City vehicles, including Winnipeg Transit or Winnipeg Transit Plus, must wear a face mask as a means to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our community.

As of July 30, all staff from the Community Services Department who were temporarily laid off as a result of COVID-19 have been recalled. The final group of recalls was completed enabling the City to reopen a number of recreation facilities.
