Policies, Procedures and Bylaws
The City of Winnipeg Charter is provincial legislation that requires the City to adopt, by by-law, a development plan that sets out long-term plans and policies respecting its purposes; its physical, social, environmental and economic objectives; sustainable land uses and development; and measures for implementing this plan.
OurWinnipeg 2045 the City's municipal development plan, provides direction for a sustainable city, and heritage conservation is a factor of sustainable growth.
Complete Communities 2.0, G7 Heritage Conservation is a direction strategy that supports OurWinnipeg. Its primary focus is to describe Winnipeg's physical characteristics and layout a framework for the city's future physical growth and development by introducing an urban structure. Heritage conservation is a contributing factor to Winnipeg's urban structure.
Historical Resources By-law No. 55/2014 identifies heritage resources in Winnipeg and establishes protections and regulations.
Heritage Conservation Districts By-law No. 87/2018 protects and conserves areas within Winnipeg that are of special architectural or historical interest.
Property Standards. If you own a property in the City of Winnipeg, you are required to comply with all property standards bylaws, including: Vacant Buildings By-law No. 79/2010, Neighbourhood Liveability By-law No. 1/2008, and By-law No. 72/2016.
