Eligible property owners to receive a Property Tax Rebate cheque from Province of Manitoba
Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg began mailing 2021 property tax statements today and most residential property owners will see a higher amount payable on their statement as a result of the provincial government’s reduction to the Education Property Tax Credit (EPTC).
For 2021, eligible residential property owners will notice a 25% reduction in the EPTC on their annual property taxes from the City of Winnipeg with the maximum EPTC lowered from $700 down to $525 for qualifying properties. The Province has advised they will be issuing eligible residential property owners an Education Property Tax Rebate cheque equal to 25% of their gross school taxes.
Information on the Province’s changes to the education property tax is available at manitoba.ca/edupropertytax. Property owners with questions regarding the EPTC or rebate process can contact the Manitoba Government inquiry line at 1-866-626-4862 or by email at mgi@gov.mb.ca.
The property tax due date remains June 30, 2021, however in support of property owners who may need temporary relief during the COVID-19 pandemic, Council has approved waiving penalties for unpaid property taxes for three months following the due date. Penalties for unpaid 2021 property taxes will resume on October 1, 2021.
