Winnipeg, MB – Families living in Point Douglas can beat the heat this summer as the new Freight House Recreation Centre spray pad at 200 Isabel St. officially opened today.
“Winnipeg summers are hot, humid, and almost always too short,” said Mayor Brian Bowman. “This spray pad is a welcome addition for Point Douglas residents, and will provide residents with an affordable, local, and accessible option to beat the heat and enjoy the summer sun.”
“Spray pads are an excellent way to enjoy the summer weather – they are fun and free,” said Mike Pagtakhan, City Councillor for Point Douglas. “The new Freight House spray pad is another great addition to the Point Douglas community, as it will bring families together while promoting physical activity.”
The new spray pad is fully accessible and has three zones for different patrons – toddlers, children, and youth - including 10 water jets and a total of 10 spray toys. The site features new picnic tables and benches, artificial turf seating area, and an asphalt pathway. The project was funded by the 2017 Capital budget in the order of $1,039,000.
