Furnaces and Appliances
It wouldn’t be the holidays without snow and cold weather, but it also means your furnace and other home appliances have to work overtime. Keep these tips in mind for safe appliance use this holiday season:
- Make sure fuel-burning appliances are functioning correctly, and are venting properly into outside air.
- Furnaces and fuel-burning appliances should be checked by a qualified technician to ensure proper and safe ventilation and chimney function.
- Check throughout the winter to make sure that your high efficiency gas hot water tanks and high efficiency furnace tanks are free of ice buildup.
- Like every season, make sure smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors are working, and be sure to test them regularly. Make sure you know when and how to call for help in the event of an emergency, and practice your home escape plan.
And don’t forget, smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors make great gifts for those special people on your list!
