Bowman announces collaborative team to continue strong leadership at City Hall

Winnipeg, MB - Building on the momentum of a strong first year for the 43rd Winnipeg City Council, Mayor Brian Bowman today announced leadership appointments to the newly aligned standing policy committees comprising Executive Policy Committee (EPC), along with additional mayoral appointments that will engage the collective strengths, experience, and diverse talents of the members of City Council.

"I am honoured to reappoint existing members of EPC whose efforts have absolutely contributed to Council’s strong start since the 2014 election,” said Mayor Brian Bowman. “To build the strongest team to look out for the best interests of Winnipeggers, however, we need to better engage the passion and experience of every elected member of Council, so I am pleased to also announce new appointments to allow even greater collaboration and engagement between elected members and our citizens.”

The Executive Policy Committee will be composed of the following six members:

Councillor Jeff Browaty- (North Kildonan) Chair of Innovation

Councillor Janice Lukes - (St. Norbert) Acting Deputy Mayor, Chair of Infrastructure Renewal and Public Works

Councillor Brian Mayes - (St. Vital) Chair of Water and Waste, Riverbank Management and the Environment

Councillor Marty Morantz - (Charleswood-Tuxedo) Chair of Finance

Councillor John Orlikow - (River Heights-Fort Garry) Chair of Property and Development, Heritage and Downtown Development

Councillor Mike Pagtakhan - (Point Douglas) Deputy Mayor, Chair of Protection, Community Services and Parks

Additional appointments include:

Councillor Matt Allard- (St. Boniface) Council Liaison - Francophone and

Councillor Shawn Dobson - (St. Charles) Council Representative for the Mayor’s Age Friendly and Senior’s Advisory Committee

Councillor Jenny Gerbasi - (Fort Rouge East Fort Garry) Secretary of Urban Aboriginal Opportunities

Councillor Scott Gillingham - (St. James - Brooklands - Weston) Council Liaison - Veteran and Millitary Affairs, Chair of the Winnipeg Police Board

Councillor Cindy Gilroy - (Daniel McIntyre) Secretary of the End Homelessness Strategies

Councillor Brian Mayes - (St. Vital) Council Liaison for School Board and Youth Opportunities

Councillor Jason Schreyer - (Elmwood - East Kildonan) Council Liaison for Labour Relations

Amendments to the Organizational By-law for the realignment of standing policy committees were adopted by Council on at the October 28th; updated Standing Policy Committees will be implemented following the November Organizational meeting of Council when additional Committee and Board appointments will be presented as well.
