Regional routes cleared, significant progress made with collector/bus routes, back lanes, sidewalks

Winnipeg, MB - Crews are continuing coordinated efforts to clear snow and ice accumulations from snow and drifting on Friday night and Saturday morning, and to sand roadways as required. A snow clearing and sanding operation began around midnight on Friday and is continuing today, Sunday, January 4, 2015 as follows:

Priority 1 streets (regional) - Truck plowing of the P1 network was completed on Saturday. Where required, maintenance scraping at intersections will be done and sanding operations will continue as conditions warrant, to improve roadway traction.

Priority 2 streets (collector/bus routes) - Truck plowing operation is complete.
Where required, maintenance scraping at intersections will be conducted today and overnight. Country roads have all been plowed and some spot plowing will be done as and where required, due to drifting in localized areas. Sanding operations will also continue as conditions warrant.

Priority 3 streets (residential) - Crews are monitoring the residential road network. Areas prone to drifting are being monitored and will be addressed with spot plowing and sanding where required.

Priority 1, 2 and 3 sidewalks - The sidewalk plowing operation is continuing through the Priority 1, 2 and 3 networks until completion. Priority 1 (regional) network is near completion, and some crews have begun services into the Priority 2 (collector/bus routes) network.

Back lanes - The lane clearing operation is approximately 50% complete and will continue as part of day shift operations.

Only the regular Snow Route Parking Ban remains in effect at the present time, meaning parking is prohibited between 2:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. on streets displaying “Snow Route” signs. For updates on snow/sanding operations and parking bans, please visit the Public Works Department website.

Citizens are urged to drive according to conditions and reminded to use caution around snow clearing equipment.

Snow disposal sites are currently open and available for public use.

Plowing and sanding operations are being conducted in accordance with the City Council-approved Snow Clearing and Ice Control Policy, which can be found online at City of Winnipeg Snow Clearing and Ice Control Policy.
