Winnipeg, MB - Snow clearing operations continue throughout the city today as the weather conditions remain blustery.
Here is the latest from City of Winnipeg Public Works:
Priority 1 (Regional) streets - Plowing continues in exposed areas that are prone to drifting. Treatment of roads has moved from Wednesday night’s salting operations into a sand application as and where required.
Priority 2 (Bus/collector routes) streets - Snow hauling operations are ongoing to improve sight lines in school zones, at bus stops crosswalks and lane/alley intersections. Maintenance sanding is being done at priority locations. Any areas prone to drifting are being monitored and will continue to be addressed with spot plowing services.
Priority 3 Streets (Residential) - Public Works is monitoring residential road network conditions, areas prone to drifting are being monitored and will continue to be addressed with spot plowing services and sanding is occurring as and where required.
Priority 1 and 2 sidewalks - Sidewalk blowing of problem areas is taking place and, as the winds reduce later in the day, crew will move into a full sidewalk plowing/blowing operation of the P1, P2 and back into the P3 sidewalk network.
Priority 3 sidewalks - Residential sidewalk clearing is nearing completion, with problem areas being addressed with sidewalk blowers.
Hydrants - Crews have been deployed during daytime operations to clear around hydrants.
Backlanes - Public Works is monitoring lane conditions in conjunction with the high winds.
A decision on when the Declared Snow Route Parking Ban will be lifted will be made later today as the City continues to monitor the weather conditions. Citizens are urged to use caution in and around these winter equipment operations.
Citizens are reminded that the Annual Snow Route Parking Ban remains in effect daily on streets designated as snow routes from 2:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. until March 1, 2014.
