Winnipeg, MB - The City of Winnipeg Animal Services Agency will be continuing its Adopt-a-Dog sale on Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28 from 12:00 noon to 4:30 p.m. at 1057 Logan Avenue, in the hopes of helping nice dogs like Cora find homes.
Cora is presently available for adoption. She came to Animal Services as an un-licensed stray over a month ago. Like most of the dogs at Animal Services, she was found running loose, not spayed, and not wearing a license. She was picked up by Animal Services Officers and brought in for care, while she waited for her owner to come. The young husky/lab mix has been at Animal Services since March 19 and is now looking for a new home.
Public response to the Adopt-a-Dog sale, which started on Wednesday, has been slow and additional stray dogs continue to be brought in to the facility daily. This dog was brought to Animal Services in a shopping cart earlier this week. The unlicensed dog will be held five days, and then evaluated for adoption next week.
All in-house dog adoptions are only $99 and include license, micro-chip, spay/neuter, basic vaccinations, food and pet health insurance.
Animal Services staff and volunteers do everything possible to promote the adoption of unclaimed dogs. This includes featuring pictures and videos of these dogs on Winnipeg.ca/animalservices and on Facebook.
Animal Services officials remind the public that dogs over six months of age must have and wear a dog license. Stray dogs found wearing a current license are given a “free ride home” once a year.
In 2012, 927 dogs wearing a current license were reunited by 311 without ever setting foot in the Animal Services’ facility. Dog license tags protect one’s dog and license revenues help provide the essential service of animal control in Winnipeg.
The Agency also encourages spay/neuter to help with the dog and cat over-population problem in Winnipeg.
