Winnipeg, MB - The City of Winnipeg is encouraging residents to check for plumbing leaks during Fix a Leak Week, March 18 - 24, 2013. The most common culprits are toilets and dripping faucets.
Fix a Leak Week was created by United States Environmental Protection Agency’s WaterSense program. The City of Winnipeg is a promotional partner of the WaterSense Program.
Monitoring our homes for leaks on a regular basis helps ensure we are all doing our part to protect our precious water resources. Plus, fixing leaks could save homeowners hundreds of dollars on their water bills.
Plumbing leaks can waste water 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In many cases, fixture replacement parts are inexpensive, pay for themselves quickly, and can be installed by handy do-it-yourselfers or plumbing professionals.
Fix a Leak Week checklist
- Check for leaks (e.g., toilets, faucets, showerheads).
- Fix leaks immediately.
- Replace fixtures if necessary with WaterSense labelled models.

Residents are reminded that the Toilet Replacement Credit Program is continuing for 2013. To be eligible for the $60 water bill credit, applicants must:
- own or rent a single-family home,
- replace an old inefficient toilet (i.e., with a flush volume of 13 litres or more),
- purchase and install a WaterSense labelled toilet on our approved toilet list (single flush 6 litre toilets are not eligible), and
- recycle your old toilet at an approved toilet recycling depot.
