WINNIPEG, MB - July 16, 2012 - Meet newly named Mandy who was rescued after being thrown from a van last week on Valour Road. A witness observed Mandy do two full cartwheels in the air before hitting the ground. Mandy was then brought in for care at the Animal Services Agency and is now up for adoption.
A similar case occurred in early June when a puppy was found abandoned in a dumpster. The dog was named Rayne and cared for by Animal Services before being put up for adoption. Rayne now lives in River Heights and according to her new owners she’s doubled in size and has filled their hearts with happiness.
Animal Services officials wish to remind the public that if residents are unable to care for their dogs, there are many resources available in Winnipeg. Ask family, friends, co-workers or seek the assistance of the numerous animal welfare groups in Winnipeg.
There are 27 dogs currently up for adoption at Animal Services.
Animal Services receives more than 12,000 calls for service a year. The Agency provides the essential service of animal control in Winnipeg which includes:

- Animal Services Officers to help resolve neighbourhood disputes and other incidents involving animals.
- A facility for the care of stray dogs.
- A fleet of animal control vehicles.
- Administration of a dog licensing program.
- Reuniting stray dogs with their owners including a “Free Ride Home” program for dogs wearing current licenses.
- Dogs wearing current licenses are reunited with their owners 24/7 through 311.
- Transportation of injured animals for emergency veterinary care.
- Emergency services including attending house fires, car accidents, and police assists to help in the removal of animals.
- An Adoption Program at Animal Services which allows adoptable dogs to be adopted to new families instead of being euthanized.
- Promotion of responsible pet ownership.
