Former Olympian Mike Strange Inspires with Run for Cancer Research
WINNIPEG - May 2, 2012 - Mayor Sam Katz welcomed former Olympian Mike Strange to City Hall today, to cheers from Winnipeg elementary school students.
"We are grateful to you for picking up where Terry Fox left off," Katz told the 41-year-old runner. "Through your efforts, a whole new generation will understand the kind of commitment and the courage needed to make a difference for something you believe in."

Strange is completing the cross-country run that Terry Fox started more than 30 years ago. He left Thunder Bay nearly three weeks ago, logging an average of 40 kilometres each day. A boxer, Strange represented Canada in three consecutive Olympic games, starting in1992.
As he arrived at City Hall, Strange was met by students from Wayoata and Earl Grey schools, as well as by members of Boxing Manitoba and Athletics Manitoba.
"Everyone's been so friendly, I feel like I've been adopted by Winnipeg," said Strange, at the conclusion of the event.
Money raised from the run will be donated to the Terry Fox Foundation.
