Motorists and pedestrians are advised that the rehabilitation of the Osborne Street Bridge will recommence during the weekend of March 30, 2012.

WINNIPEG - March 27, 2012 - The western portion of the bridge, including the west sidewalk, will be closed to vehicle traffic and pedestrians until completion of the rehabilitation. Three traffic lanes (one lane in each direction and a switchover lane to accommodate peak traffic times) will be open on the east side. The east sidewalk will be available to pedestrians. Construction will also include road rehabilitation on Osborne from River Avenue to Broadway.

To permit pedestrian and cyclist traffic to safely cross Osborne Street, the north end, under-bridge path which connects the east and west sidewalks, will be open as river levels allow. If the under-bridge path is not open due to river levels, pedestrian and cyclists must use the crossing at Broadway and are strongly cautioned that crossing at other than controlled intersections and crosswalks is unsafe. Cyclists are also reminded that they must dismount their bicycles when using any sidewalk.

Upon completion of the project, a signal-controlled pedestrian and cyclist crossing will be provided just north of the bridge.

It is expected that rehabilitation of the western portion of the bridge will be complete in late summer, 2012. At that time, traffic will be shifted to two lanes in each direction and work will commence on the concrete median barrier to separate northbound and southbound traffic.

The City of Winnipeg would like to thank all Osborne Bridge users for their patience during the construction period.

The Osborne Bridge renewal project is scheduled for completion in late October, 2012. The major infrastructure rehabilitation works underway are an investment by Council that will extend the lifespan of the bridge by up to 75 years with routine maintenance and periodic renewal. In 2012, the City of Winnipeg is investing $149.8 million on roads and bridges, in keeping with citizens' priorities.
