Update:
The Winnipeg Police Service’s Collision Investigation Section continued to investigate an October 15, 2024 motor vehicle collision in the 400 block of St. Mary’s Road.
As a result of the collision, both the involved vehicle and a local commercial business sustained severe damage. The occupants of the vehicle fled the scene before police arrived. Miraculously, neither the driver, passenger, other motorists, nor pedestrians, reported any injuries as a result of the high-speed collision.
Through their investigation, it was learned that the vehicle, a 2009 Dodge Charger SRT8, was travelling at 213 km/hr moments prior to the collision and at 158 km/hr upon impact.
Investigators identified the driver and on March 24, 2025, arrested him without incident at his residence.
A 21-year-old male of Winnipeg faces a charge of Dangerous Operation of Conveyance and was released via Appearance Notice as mandated by the Criminal Code.
The Service wants to remind drivers that collisions are not accidents. If it is predictable, it is preventable.
The overall strategy of the Winnipeg Police Service continues to focus on making city streets safe for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists alike. We all have a part to play in maintaining road safety and our message is simple: Just Slow Down.
