Enhanced security and safety measures at Police Headquarters

The Winnipeg Police Service has upgraded safety and security measures in the lobby of the Police Headquarters Service Centre, located at 245 Smith Street.

In an effort to maintain a safe and secure environment for visitors and police service members, walk-through metal detectors will be used to screen visitors at the point of entry.

All members of the public wishing to enter the Service Centre area are subject to security screening. Members of the public are not required to comply with this screening, however, those who do not, will not be allowed to enter.

The security screening will include a two-stage process:

  • Mandatory bag check and non-invasive person search using a walk-through metal detector.
  • Based on the outcome of step one, a second security screening with a handheld metal detector and/or a physical pat-down, as necessary.

These new security measures are similar to those in place upon entry to the Law Courts Building, airports and large special event venues.

General enquiries by  video phone

Available only at West District Station - 2321 Grant Avenue

Monday to Friday (excluding holidays) from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm.

We are now available to answer general enquiries and provide basic police information through a live video phone that is installed in the lobby at the West District Station.

Simply pick up the handset and press the green button on the display screen to be connected to a police representative at the Headquarters Building.

We are not able to accept police reports through this platform, however our online reporting system remains an easy and convenient way for you to report many different types of crimes.
