Fonds canin et commémoratif

Canine Fund

The Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) Canine Fund was created to address 2 financial needs of the K9 Unit for the safety and wellbeing of the Police

Service dogs while working and later during retirement.

One of the needs is to purchase Protective ballistic vests for the K9’s which on average costs $5000 per vest. These are not deemed mandatory equipment and as such not paid for through regular budgeting.  The second part to this fund is the Retirement fund which pays for  veterinary care, and food costs for the PSD in retirement. The nature of the work they have done can lead to ailments and injuries not normally experienced in a pet and lead to high veterinarian costs.

Both of these needs would not be made possible without donations and fundraising efforts.

The City of Winnipeg is a qualified donee and will issue official donation receipts for gifts in the amount of $25 and higher.

Canine Memorial Fund

Expected completion date is summer 2025

The Winnipeg Police Canine Memorial will be a permanent structure located beside the existing K9 building at 77 Durand Rd. It is being built to honour the beloved and devoted working dogs for the Winnipeg Police Service and the citizens of Winnipeg. This memorial was made possible by fundraising efforts that spanned several years and allowed citizens to purchase a memory stone where they could inscribe it with their own message. These stones will make up part of the sidewalk leading to the memorial.

Stay tuned for photos of this finished product and come by for a visit as the site will be open to members of the public who wish to pay their respects.

Donations for this are now concluded.
