Since the inception of the Manitoba Integrated Violent Offender Apprehension Unit (MIVOAU), Winnipeg Police and RCMP members have made a tremendous impact in helping make our communities safer. Police have taken 480 serious or violent offenders into custody since the unit became operational in May 2023. While this is an important milestone, the Winnipeg Police Service and the RCMP recognize the success of MIVOAU and community safety are improved with assistance from the public.
The RCMP and the Winnipeg Police Service are pleased to announce the launch of the Manitoba’s Most Wanted Website. It showcases some of the offenders that MIVOAU is actively looking for. The goal is to share timely information with the public with the intention that if someone spots a wanted individual, they will contact the Winnipeg Police Service, RCMP, or Crime Stoppers to report the location of the offender. The wanted notices are to encourage the public to be on the lookout, but these are serious and violent offenders so they should not be approached.
MIVOAU targets violent and prolific offenders, including suspects in serious and violent crimes and persons who are wanted on outstanding arrest warrants. This integrated unit identifies, locates and apprehends violent offenders in communities across the province.
In the first 3 quarters of 2024 MIVOAU has:
- Arrested 264 violent offenders
- Conducted 594 warrant checks and knocked on 1,203 doors during their searches
- Executed 375 Warrants
- 84% of arrests involved someone who was either on bail, probation or parole.
- 27% of violent offenders arrested by MIVOAU were known to police as a gang member or associate.
- MIVOAU assisted other WPS or RCMP investigative units 20 times
- MIVOAU participated in 12 initiatives with external partners or other law enforcement agencies including (most recently): Vancouver Police Service – Organize Crime Unit, Anishinabek Police Service (Thunder Bay), Kenora OPP, Manitoba Prosecution Services and Regina Police Service.
This work is made possible through the financial support of Manitoba Justice.
Crime Stoppers will consider enhanced rewards for information that leads to the arrest of an individual on this list.
