The Winnipeg Police Service has been in regular communication with community leaders about the impacts of the war in the Middle East and the fear and insecurity it is creating in Winnipeg.
The Service continuously monitors world and local events. It assesses their potential impact on the safety and security of our community and is working closely with leaders to remain abreast of issues and concerns.
In response to the terror attack in Israel last weekend, the Service immediately increased patrols around cultural centres, schools, synagogues, mosques and other places of worship across the city. People can expect to see a continued, increased police presence in affected communities.
As Chief Danny Smyth said yesterday on behalf of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police, “Nothing can justify the slaughter of innocent people going about their lives. We are disgusted that anyone would celebrate these attacks, or in any way associate these acts as support for the Palestinian people.”
The Service will continue to deploy resources at rallies and protests to provide a safe and secure environment for the residents of Winnipeg.
