As previously released:
On March 7, 2023 at approximately 2:00 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a shooting in the 600 block of Spence Street where four male victims (in their 20s & 30s) were shot and seriously injured. All four victims were eventually upgraded to stable condition.
Several hours later, at approximately 6:00 a.m., police responded to another shooting in the 400 block of Beverley Street. Two females were shot, one fatally. The deceased was identified as 49-year-old Lori Gordon. The second victim, in her 30s, was upgraded to stable condition.
The Homicide and Major Crimes Units continued investigating and determined both incidents were related.
On April 13, 2023, a 17-year-old male from Winnipeg was arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder and charges related to both shooting incidents. He was detained in custody.
Investigators subsequently determined the identity of a second suspect and issued a warrant for an 18-year-old male, Marin Faruq LUTHER of Winnipeg. Police asked for public assistance locating LUTHER, but he remained outstanding.
Update:
On September 26, 2023, with the assistance of the Steinbach RCMP, LUTHER was located in Hanover, MB, where he was taken into custody. He was arrested on the strength of his warrant and charged with the following offences:
- Second Degree Murder (Lori Gordon)
- Attempt to Commit Murder x 5
- Aggravated Assault x 5
- Warrant for Fail to Attend Court x 2
He was detained in custody.
