On January 1, 2023, at approximately 3:15 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a business in the 1600 block of Regent Avenue West for the report of a Commercial Break & Enter.

General Patrol officers from the East District attended and located an adult male suspect still within the premises. He was placed under arrest without incident. A stolen vehicle was also located on the premises and seized by officers.

The Major Crimes Unit assumed the investigation and learned the suspect attended the business in a previously reported stolen vehicle and accessed the premises by shattering the front entrance glass door. The investigators learned the suspect used a previously reported stolen power tool to defeat a locked cigarette compartment.

Through their investigation, investigators linked the suspect to the following previously reported incidents:

- On December 8, 2022, a suspect attended to the 1100 block of Munroe Avenue and stole a 2003 Toyota Corolla valued at approximately $6,000

- On December 30, 2022, a suspect attended to the first 100 block of Balaban Place, broke into a parked vehicle, and stole numerous power tools contained within

Rick James WALKER, 31, of Winnipeg, is charged with the following offences:

- Break & Enter with Intent – Place
- Possession of Break-In Instruments
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000

He was released on an Undertaking as mandated by the Criminal Code.

The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Major Crimes Investigators at 204-986-6219 or Crimestoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
